How the attorney general feels about his own role in the Fox News case—and how he plans to prevent it from happening again. By The Daily Beast's Daniel Klaidman.

HOSTILE

Three Lebanese soldiers were killed at a checkpoint near the Syrian border on Tuesday, with the gunmen fleeing across the border. Clashes have broken out in the area before, near the town of Arsal, where Syrian rebels smuggle weapons across the border. In February, four Lebanese soldiers and two fighters were killed in a gunfight. This week has been particularly dangerous across the border, with shells from Syria striking the Lebanese region of Hermel on Monday and two rockets hitting Beirut on Sunday. Meanwhile, fighting continued in Syria on Tuesday in Qusayr and Damascus—and there were more reports of chemical-weapons usage by President Bashar al-Assad against the opposition. In Brussels, the European Union let its embargo on weapons lapse, which could allow arms to flow into the rebels' hands.

TOP SECRET

The leaders of the Supreme Military Council of the Free Syrian Army told the senator they want the U.S. to provide arms, a no-fly zone, and strikes on Hezbollah. The Daily Beast's Josh Rogin reports.

WILD

Around 1,000 campers and 4,000 residents fled the area near Los Padres National Forest after a fast-moving fire broke out Monday and burned through 1,000 acres by the end of the day. U.S. Forest spokesman Andrew Madsen said the fire was only about 5 percent contained by Monday evening. The white fire broke out at around 2:45 p.m. Monday about 12 miles north of Santa Barbara, sweeping through a Forest Service outpost and partially burning a service vehicle. No homes had been burned, but up to 5,000 residents have been asked to evacuate as the city was engulfed with smoke.

NOT SO GRAND

It's bad news for the cruise industry when a fire abroad a ship doesn't seem as disastrous as what could have happened. The 2,200 passengers abroad a Royal Caribbean ship that caught fire on Monday are expected to fly back to the U.S. on Tuesday. A fire broke out at about 2:50 a.m. on the Grandeur of the Seas, which had left Baltimore for the Bahamas on Friday for a seven-night trip. Originally headed for CocoCay, Bahamas, the ship instead docked in Freeport, Bahamas, on Monday. It was not immediately clear what caused the fire. Royal Caribbean said all passengers had been accounted for, and they will all receive a full refund and a certificate for a future cruise.
