VETERANS DAY

The Army's first statue of a female soldier was unveiled last week, just in time for Veterans Day. It's a powerful symbol and a call to recognize the service of women in the military, writes veteran Mariette Kalinowski.

MUSIC

The pop star's new album 'ARTPOP' is a starkly naked exhibition of an artist whose brilliance is stripped away by her obsession with creativity. But for all of its art, Lady Gaga's latest effort never really pops.

REMEMBER

On a day set aside to remember America's veterans, President Obama hosted a Veterans Day breakfast at the White House and later, laid a wreath at Arlington National Cemetery. The president said veterans represent America at its best, and encouraged citizens to honor all service members, as the nation's obligations to those who have served "endure long after the battle ends." The president will also speak on Monday at a ceremony at Arlington.

AWARENESS

In front of millions of viewers on October 1, ABC News correspondent Amy Robach had a mammogram to raise awareness. Now, as she revealed on Good Morning America, she will have a double mastectomy to treat the breast cancer that was found. As she wrote online, "If several producers and even Robin Roberts herself hadn't convinced me that doing this on live television would save lives, I would never have been able to save my own."

CRIME

A member of an Iranian indie rock band, The Yellow Dogs, who was recently kicked out of the group, killed two of the bandmembers, wounded another, and then shot himself in East Williamsburg on Monday. The band formed in Tehran in 2006 and continued performing at well known venues in Brooklyn. Survivors include a 22-year-old man who was shot in the arm and two others who hid inside a first floor bathroom during the shooting. The alleged gunman was found dead on the roof. The New York Post reports that the gunman was former bandmember Raefe Ahkbar.
