Good morning! It will be in the low 80s and sunny here in New York. Let's look at the news of the day: - Uber hired former President Obama campaign manager David Plouffe to run its own "campaign." Uber's CEO has said that he thinks of what he's doing as a political fight against the taxi regulators.
- Lyft's COO has left the company after tensions with the company's cofounders.
- Apple hit a new all-time closing high reaching $100.53.
- It was boosted to its new high, in part, by a report from Morgan Stanley which had 8 reasons why Apple's stock is going higher this product cycle than the last time it was at a new high.
- Steve Ballmer has stepped down from Microsoft's board. He says he will be busy owning the Clippers, and teaching, and so he won't be able to give his full attention to the company. (Our guess for the real reason: Microsoft is about to rip up much of what he did, and it will be weird for him to be on board while that happens. He also wants to give new CEO Satya Nadella space to be his own man.)
- At an internal all-hands meeting, the COO of Cisco told employees that its system of making major layoffs every year is "the wrong way to do it."
- Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana was at the Y Combinator demo day to do some angel investing. "You know, our accountant's always going, 'You know that's extremely risky!' [Laughs] Yes we do, we do."
- Apple is supposedly having trouble making the iWatch and it could be delayed until 2015, says KGI Securities. KGI is good at predicting what goes into an Apple product, but it's not so good at timing, so we're skeptical of this report.
- The "mood is gloomy" amongst independent mobile app developers, says the FT. The gold rush for making mobile apps is over.
- Twitter updated its timeline guidelines and now it says, "you will sometimes see Tweets from accounts you don't follow." This, naturally, has people in a tizzy. They don't want Twitter inserting random tweets into their feed.
