Cheat Sheet - Tea Party Scam Screwed Our Troops

Read This, Skip That ....

WHAT A SHAM

Last year, "Move America Forward" raised money to send care packages to 800 Marines in Afghanistan. Or so it claimed. Kim Barber reports that Tea Party Express founder Sal Russo solicited funds for troops as a guise for raising and funneling money to pay political consultants.

UNCLE SAM

As Israel and Hamas enter a 72-hour ceasefire and the calm allows for reflection, many Palestinians are resentful that the U.S. continues to support Israel with military supplies. Though U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has vowed $47 million in humanitarian aid to Gazans, Jesse Rosenfeld reports that Palestinians want more funds and support and less for Israel, especially when it comes to weapons.

YOU'VE GOT MAIL

Google helped Houston law enforcement catch a man in possession of child pornography. When John Henry Skillern, 41, sent pornographic images of children through his Gmail account, each had a unique digital footprint. They triggered an automatic alert in Google, enabling the company to notify the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). While the automated detection system had a positive outcome in this case, it raises concern about what other crimes or information Google may be scanning our Gmail accounts to find. However, Google assures that its scanning system does not detect "other email content that could be associated with criminal activity (for example using email to plot a burglary)." You can continue planning that jewel heist over gchat.

INEQUALITY

While gay rights charge full-force ahead, women's equality is stagnant, if not backwards, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg says. While the court is using language of "equal dignity" in recent rulings supporting same-sex couples, gender cases rarely get the same consideration of equality. The court has yet to embrace "the ability of women to decide for themselves what their destiny will be," she said in a law school speech last week.

CAUGHT ON TAPE

A shocking security video shows a man shooting his friend in a Bronx grocery store without even spilling his drink. More disturbing is when five other men in the store calmly walk out, stepping over the victim as he struggles to lift his head. Michael Daly reports how the Bronx incident is reminiscent of Kitty Geneovse, who was stabbed to death 50 years ago while neighbors did nothing.
