BY HIS SIDE Ray Rice's wife, Janay, has come to her husband's defense after a video of him knocking her unconscious was released Monday by TMZ. On her private Instagram account, Janay posted a statement Tuesday criticizing the media and the public for "unwanted opinions" and making her and her husband "relive a moment in our lives that we regret every day." She said it has been a "nightmare" since the footage surfaced. "If your intentions were to hurt us, embarrass us, make us feel alone, take all happiness away, you've succeeded on many levels," she wrote. Janay also expressed her commitment to her husband and their marriage. "We will continue to grow & show the world what real love is," she wrote. As Janay has stood by her husband, several major companies have stopped doing business with him. Nike cut its endorsement contract, and EA Sports announced Rice will be eliminated from the Madden NFL 15 lineup. The Baltimore Ravens have also offered fans the opportunity to exchange their Ray Rice jerseys for other players' gear.
VOILÀ After years of speculation, Apple announced the iWatch at its iPhone 6 launch event on Tuesday. Calling it "the next chapter in Apple's story," CEO Tim Cook unveiled the stainless-steel watch, which is full of applications and has sensors on the back to pull data from your wrist to make it "a comprehensive health and fitness device." It will arrive in early 2015 and sell for $349. Apple also revealed the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus, which are both slimmer and larger than previous iPhones, and will go on sale for preorders Sept. 12. The iPhone 6 Plus screen is 5.5 inches long diagonally. The company displayed a new application called Apple Pay, which stores credit cards and allows users to make payments by tapping iPhones. "I know police have a very good handle on the investigation. Everyone's pretty much been identified," said attorney Dean Valore. The video of the cruel trick showed an underside to the viral meme. Bay Village police did not comment, though they said those responsible for the attack would probably face delinquency charges. Drew Carey had offered $10,000 as a reward for identifying the teens as the disturbing story circulated across the Web, and other celebrities followed with similar offers. While identifying the perpetrators is good news, it doesn't rectify the damage of the attack. The victim is "pretty scarred and pretty damaged," said Valore. "He thought they were his friends." | |
