Morsi: I'm 'Legitimate President' Ousted Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi's murder trial began Monday under tight security—and the trial was promptly delayed until January. Morsi defiantly told the court he is the "legitimate president," while also refusing to wear a uniform while he and his 14 codefendants chanted "illegal, illegal." Morsi and the 14 other Muslim Brotherhood figures are charged with inciting the killing of protesters outside the presidential palace in 2012. The trial had been due to take place at the Tora prison, but had moved to another location in Cairo in an apparent attempt to ward off protests. That didn't work. Protests still took place outside Cairo's High Court and the Supreme Constitutional Court in the south. Read it at BBC News NICE TRY 3. U.S. Rejects Clemency for Snowden Guess Washington is not digging Edward Snowden's goatee look. The White House and several top members of Congress on Sunday rejected Snowden's plea for international help in dropping the espionage charges against him. "Mr. Snowden violated U.S. law," said White House advisor Dan Pfeiffer. "He should return to the U.S. and face justice." German MP Hans-Christian Stroebele met with Snowden in Moscow last week, where the fugitive leaker has started working as an IT specialist. "Speaking the truth is not a crime," Snowden wrote in a letter seeking help. But the White House was not swayed, saying Sunday that no clemency offers were being discussed. Group Arrested in Journo Deaths A Malian official said Monday that around six people were arrested by French forces in connection to the kidnapping and killing of two French journalists. Radio France Internationale journalists Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon were kidnapped by four men on Saturday and reportedly shot point-blank. Police found the dead bodies next to the attackers' car, and the intelligence official said the French troops tracked the attackers in sand before making the arrests.
